Will Welch will be on a mission to hunt for the fox as the Newcastle Falcons man looking to nullify the threat posed by the captain of the Bedford Blues Darren Fox in the final of the Rugby Football Union Championship play-off final.
Two of the most open sides in the RFU Championship go head to head to against each other in the first leg of the play-off final and the fiery Fox is one of the many threats in a Blues side that is determined to halt the promotion charge mounted by The Falcons.
The former flanker for Cambridge and the Northampton Saints was sent to the sin bin during the club’s recent British and Irish Cup win for another show of indiscipline and Welch has admitted that he was one of the players that were particularly highlighted during the video sessions ahead of the match by the promotion favorites. The 23 year old stated that Fox is a great player, adding that he is huge and is very strong on the floor as well.
Welch admitted that Fox tries to rile his opponents up and the Newcastle Falcons skipper added that in a big match like this, no player can afford to be drawn into an off the ball nonsense with the Bedford Blues man and they will have to only concentrate on their jobs and get the result. The Falcons have talked about several Blues players who can be effective at the breakdown.
Welch mentioned that the clear outs for the Newcastle Falcons will be hugely important and it is shaping up to be a big battle for the players. He further stated that it is a dream fir players to play at the top level and the Aviva Premiership represents just that and the players will give it their all to reach that.
