George McGuigan, the Under-20 international hooker for Ireland has been a revelation for the Rugby Football Union Championship club the Newcastle Falcons and the club has decided to reward him for his steady improvement with a new one year deal which will keep him at the club till the end of next season.
Although McGuigan is yet to break into the first team for The Falcons, he has been a regular member of the age group squads for the Ireland national team and has also had plenty of game time at National One at Tynedale.
McGuigan graduated from the fabled academy of the Newcastle based club and this announcement of a new contract offer from the club comes just a few days after he celebrated his 20th birthday. Born at brought up in Yorkshire, the 20 year old stated that he is absolutely delighted to be signing this new deal with the Newcastle Falcons, adding that the ambitious plans that the club has laid out for the future are something that has him really excited.
The youngster hailed the spirit inside the club as second to none and added that it is the best time perhaps to be playing and be a part of the club. He also thanked the staff at the academy for the support they have given him and mentioned without them backing him up; he wouldn’t have had such a rapid development at the club – both as a player and as an individual.
The signature of McGuigan to a new deal continues the policy that the Newcastle Falcons Director of Rugby Richards has of retaining the services of the best home grown players who know and are aware of what the club stands for and what the club is looking for in the future as a whole.
