The successful trial of center Fred Burdon has resulted in the Newcastle Falcons, providing him with a permanent contract with the club.
He came through the Falcons academy and had stints for Yorkshire Carneige and Doncaster Knights before coming to Newcastle in August. Burdon will get involved with the team very soon and would be a major force in the midfield for Newcastle Falcons as Adam Powell and Chris Harris are out of the game for a long term due to injuries.
Falcons Rugby Director, Dean Richards, said that Fred has impressed everyone during the trial spell at the club and that is why the management decided to hand him over a permanent contract. He is also a local boy with great affinity towards the Falcons. Burden has played rugby at the junior level for Newcastle’s Northern FC and said that he is quite pleased to be in the senior squad of his favorite rugby club since childhood.
Burdon said that everyone at Newcastle Falcons have been very kind and welcoming during his trial spell. He has enjoyed the atmosphere and the environment in the Newcastle Falcons team. He feels that he is already there with the team and has gelled with the team quickly. Burdon is looking forward to having a wonderful career with the Falcons rugby team and wants to give it his best shot in every match that he plays for the team. He has already played games against teams like Northampton A, Gala and Leicester A, and knows what it is like in the senior rugby league.
Burdon said that he used to watch the Falcons play from the terraces and supported them when he was a kid. He likes being in the Falcons academy. The Falcons captain, Will Welch, was Burdon’s school captain at Royal Grammar School and is great to be playing with the boys that he knows from his school days.
