Newcastle Falcons have signed up a forward pair who will be part of the team next season.
The signings comprise of Gary Graham and Sami Mavinga who is Lyon prop. Gary is a flanker from Jersey Reds. New contracts have also been confirmed for Chris Harris as center and Jon Welsh as a prop. With four new players the team will have a well equipped forward pack
Mavinga at 23 years of age had come under the Falcon’s radar when he played for Lyon and against the Falcons. This happened during the encounter in European Challenge Cup as well as Kingston Park Stadium. Known to weigh 115 kg, he has featured about nine times for Lyon as well as made it to top international league games where he has been part of the starting line. He has graduated from the academy system of Lyon. Dean Richards is the director of rugby for Newcastle Falcons. He states that Sami is a player who has stood out during the two Challenge Cup games when the club played against Lyon.
He is a big and strong boy and brings forth a lot of aggression in his game. That will help him to be an asset for the club in the forthcoming summer months. He will add to the ranks of front row forwards in the forthcoming campaigns.
Gary Graham on the other hand, has a tenacity that impresses coaches. He offers consistent performance as seen in the Championship games. For that reason he is being picked up for Newcastle Falcon. Jon Welsh would be getting his contract renewed with Newcastle while Harris will also renew his terms after having made 45 appearances as part of his first professional stint. With such changes Newcastle will surely have new blood working for them in the forthcoming months.
