The two-try hooker Scotsman Scott Lawson is pretty much happy with what his team Newcastle Falcons have achieved in the pre-season. He believes that there is much more in store for the Falcons fans, this coming season, after the team trounced Doncaster Knights, Championship finalist, 34-12 in the pre-season match.
The Scottish player was at his best during the match against the Knights by dotting down twice. He said that there are a lot of learning points that the team can take from this match. The team can get even more clinical and accurate using the ball. He says that the hit out against the Doncaster Knights before the 2016/17 season was a good one, yet feels that the line out needs to be a little more accurate.
Lawson said that the Falcons team is moving in the right direction and are getting their act together for the Premiership season. He feels that the team did a lot of things right against the Knights, but there are plenty more things that they need to work on. He is happy with his pair of tries and has coped well with the new variations in the law. The team has been working hard to adhere to the new laws.
The ball has to be passed to the maul now than the same guy sliding to the back. This is what the team has focused on during its training and it had come out better in the match against the Knights.
Lawson says that the team can always turn to their maul, if things are not going according to plan in the other areas. The set pieces are the foundations of the Falcons game and they will try to use it very well during the new season. Lawson said that the team is a physical unit and are ready for the big games.
