Dean Richards, the Director of Rugby for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Newcastle Falcons is keeping a very cool head as the January transfer window, traditionally a time for opening contract agreements with players who contracts are winding down, begin to take place.
It has often turned out to be a month to dread for the fans of the club but the head coach of the club is being extremely philosophical about the window.
It is not quite like what happens in football, where not many deals take place during the winter market but here, several players have moved from one club to the other during the January window and most clubs take this time of the year to secure new signings for the upcoming season.
However, the Newcastle Falcons boss is not ignoring the significance of the short term future and is already planning to swoop for a backline signing in order to secure their leaking defense. In the past, the Falcons had lost several of their key players to the attractions of East Midlands and London during the January window and one of the prime tasks for Richards would be to tie down the players whose contract are up at the end of the season to new ones.
There are certain pros and cons about the January transfer window, according to the Newcastle boss. He mentioned that it becomes very busy but that is what life is about. He mentioned that it happens every year and it will not change now.
Speaking of signing new players, the Newcastle Falcons boss stated that the search is on for good players and whenever such a player becomes available, the club will be up there competing with the best in securing deals for those players in every window.
