Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Newcastle Falcons have confirmed the signing of Argentina international centre Gonzalo Tiesi on a contract till the end of the season to add more strength and depth to their back line as they look to maintain their status in the Premiership after a very poor start to their first season in the Aviva Premiership following their return from the Rugby Football Union Championship this season.
The club has also added the clause of a further season in his contract as an incentive beyond this season if he succeeds in nailing down a spot in the team and his performances match the expectation of the club and its officials and coaching staff.
The former Argentina international was a free agent after leaving the London Welsh at the end of last season following the club’s relegation from the Premiership to the RFU Championship and the Newcastle Falcons swopped in to take advantage of his position.
He has prior experience of working with Dean Richards, the Director of Rugby of the club who had signed him when he was with London giants Harlequins FC back in 2008. And speaking about his move to the club, Tiesi expressed that Richards was a major influencing factor in his decision to making the move to the club.
According to the Argentine, the club has got a brilliant set-up and infrastructure, adding that Dean Richards was obviously a huge draw for him and that he trusts him. Tiesi mentioned that the Newcastle Falcons is a competitor and a winner and added that he believes he will take the club forward in the near future.
The Argentine international centre has earned 36 caps for the Pumas national team and was part of the side that played in the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups.
