James Fitzpatrick and the other players of the Newcastle Falcons RFU Championship Rugby Union team have earned themselves a well deserved rest as the side from Newcastle upon Tyne takes a breather and thinks about the next phase after an extremely grueling pre-season.
The players, who began their preparations for the new season 6 weeks back ahead of the new season in the RFU Championship, aiming to get promotion back to the Aviva Premiership at the first time of asking have all been given a week off.
According to the reports that have been received, the week’s rest is for the players to get replenished and refill their energy reserves as the side looks set for another session of grueling pre-season. And according to Fitzpatrick, his rest was earned quite late after meeting the stringent targets that were set during an endurance test. According to the player, the Newcastle Falcons fitness coaches set a mark for him to earn his rest and he barely managed to clock up 20, which was good enough for them to give him the week off.
Fitzpatrick assured that he will not be easing up during this off time, and it was always a plan for the team to come into pre-season early so that they could slot in a week’s rest in order for the players to recharge before beginning training for the new season. He also claimed that this rest and the early pre-season would go a long way in keeping the players fresh till the end of the season.
Newcastle Falcons will begin life at the RFU Championship on the 2nd of September as the favorites to return back to the Aviva Premiership and facing them in their very first match is Bristol Rugby, another firm favorite for the title and promotion.
