Chris York, the number eight of the Aviva premiership winning Harlequin FC has officially been unveiled as the eighth new signing of the Newcastle Falcons as the club continues a restructure and re-shape of its squad after finishing dead bottom in the Aviva Premiership in 2011/12 season and almost certain to be relegated to the RFU Championship if the London Welsh win their appeal against their promotion.
The 22 year old Englishman, who is considered to be one of the finest young prospects for the Saxons in the back rower position was a key component in the Harlequin FC side that recently bagged its first ever Aviva Premiership title and has signed a two year contract with the Kingston park side. York was a regular started for the London based side in the first months of the side during which time, the club embarked on a 10 match winning streak which culminated in their first ever title triumph against the Leicester Tigers in the last week of May.
York’s move to the North East of England to the Newcastle Falcons will reunite him with Dean Richards, his old boss at the Twickenham Stoop when the forward was breaking through the ranks. Richards, a legend in the England and Lions ranks will take over the reins at Kingston Park in August, after serving his three year coaching ban and in York; he has one of the brightest young talents in the English game to build his side around.
York has been capped by England in all the three age groups and he has also benefitted from the fact that he had England pros in the academy of The Quins while growing up and with his signing, Newcastle Falcons surely have landed a transfer coup and ended up with a gem in their hands.
